Visit our Showroom
The first step is welcoming you to the SCC Kitchen Bath & Home Showroom. This visit is complimentary as we are eager to hear your thoughts. Plan on about 60 to 90 minutes for your first visit. We use this time to answer your questions and start educating you about the many aspects of remodel projects, the various products available, and the services we offer.
We will be taking notes as we show you Design options, available features and products that may best suit your project. We will be asking you many questions about your home such as what you like and dislike, your favorite colors, products you would like to have, how many people use the space, and the age of your home.
If more than one person is going to be involved in the decision-making process for your project, then it is best both people visit the showroom together. If you’ve saved pictures out of magazines or have a wish list for your project, bring them along. We will discuss average costs of remodeling projects we have completed that are similar to the one you would like to do. We will also share costs based on national and Twin Cities-area statistics.
You do not need to make an appointment for this visit if you come in during our open hours. If a specific time will work better in your schedule, you are welcome to make an appointment.
Site Measurement and Assessment.
For Kitchens, Baths, Basements, and other interior remodels:
The second step of your project is to set up a site measure and assessment. This typically takes 1-2 hours.
Our team will visit your home to do a full assessment of the site. We will be using our notes taken at the showroom visit so we make sure to consider your wants, needs, and the most cost-effective way to do it. We will be taking many measurements to assure accuracy for our design and proposal.
A nominal fee of $100 covers the cost to have a professionally trained, experienced designer and contractor come to your home. The cost of this assessment is credited at the end of the project from your final payment.
For additions and exterior work: There is no fee to have the project assessed and measured by our staff. We will assess the site, review what you want, determine if it can be done, and give you a range-based cost to build. From this point when you determine that you’d like to go forward; we will collect a retainer that will be credited towards your final contract.
Next.
Using the information we have gathered up to this point, we will now start to Design your new space. We will do cost comparisons to meet your budget, include your preferred materials, and determine the costs involved. We need to do this to give you a complete and accurate proposal. We will also start color, texture and product layout suggestions. This takes us approximately two weeks.
Our Proposal.
Now we are ready for you to return to the SCC Kitchen Bath & Home Showroom. At this time, you will meet with your designer to review plans, material selections, and options. This visit will take approximately 60 to 90 minutes.
This is where we will introduce to you the scope of work. Our scope of work is a detailed explanation of the entire project. It will include items we discussed in our initial meeting that you want to include. The Scope of Work defines each phase of the work to be completed. This is not an estimate. This is an accurate proposal for SCC Kitchen Bath & Home to complete the project. It will include the time it will take to complete the project along with our guarantee that we will meet that timeline. This proposal is so inclusive and accurate you can have confidence that if you make the decision to go forward, the price will not change.
Note: What you want to include or changes to the design can be made, and we will be happy to adjust the scope of work accordingly.
Plans are not released without a Project Design Retainer. Retainers vary depending on the size and complexity of the project (most retainers’ average $500-$2,500.) The retainer is credited from the final payment of your project (this means if you choose to do your project with SCC, there is no charge for the design).
The Contract.
Our construction contract specifies all details of your project –Scope of Work, Plans, List of items included, and Payment terms. You will also be given an estimated start date. Our project start dates are determined by order of signed contracts, color selections of materials to be ordered, and the timeliness we will receive them. We verify all items prior to start date. We take special precautions to not have back-ordered products interfere once we start construction. Note: It helps to know if you have a special occasion planned. We can schedule so it is completed by this date.
Finalizing Colors and Selections.
Based on the products in your contract we may need to make a few final color and product selections. We will schedule a selection meeting in our showroom where you will be able to make any final choices. This is a fun meeting which typically takes an hour.
Preparation.
During this time, our staff finalizes all material orders, make any on-site verifications, and we start to receive products. This is when your construction schedule is prepared, and you are notified of your start date. Most projects start one to six weeks after the contract signing.
By this time, we have given you helpful hints on packing, you will have things organized to accommodate the disruption, and you will know exactly what to expect. We know you are excited, and we are almost ready!
Start Date.
All permits have been acquired, the dumpster shows up, and the big day is here as planned. Our crew will arrive and the first thing that is done is to ensure your home is protected during construction. Plastic walls and floor covering goes up, and demolition and construction get underway. You will receive a schedule detailing how the construction will progress, and we will communicate with you daily.
This is construction- everything has an order, and must be completed correctly. You want our crews there, but they also know you want your home to yourself again. This process is about doing everything correctly, not cutting corners, and providing you with your home transformed just the way you expect it.
Remember, we have told you how long it will take.
At SCC Kitchen Bath & Home -We Guarantee it!
