Two Butt Kitchen is Gone!

Friday, March 1st, 2013

After 22 years you can pretty much say we have seen it all. Usually it is a kitchen with cabinet doors or drawers that don’t close any more, nasty floor, dated appliances with magnets everywhere or small spaces that need to accommodate larger families. In addition to this we see spaces where everything was originally just plopped into a space and expected to work. Drawers collide, the standard NKBA triangle was followed whether it worked or not.

Flash forward to this project- You must see all the photos below!    A little background:

The perfect location, beautiful views out of each window. A roomy grand house, neat and tidy and then there was the kitchen. Designed with all the latest and greatest cabinets, granite countertops, wood floor and every high end built in appliance you can think of.  CRAMPED into a space that barely left enough room for two butts on a good day! An adjacent room that was originally a designed as a poker room had turned into a “what do you do with this room” kind of space that was now the family catch all.

Here you have  before photos of the kitchen. At first glance it looks very nice.  – Note the size

This is the wall we removed

See the seating space at the overhang? If you used it you would be sitting in a doorway!

By looking at these photo you realize that the photos can’t show everything because it is too Tiny! Or, because that was it!   I’m just saying…

SOLUTION

What we did was simple for our crew at SCC Kitchen Bath & Home. Time consuming (10 weeks) but worth the wait for the kitchen to match the remainder of the home. First on the list was to remove a bearing wall and open the space up!

The wall is GONE!

Left side Freezer- Right side Refrigerator 60" wide!

Large format Tile floor, new beverage cooler, a mixture of painted cabinets topped off with Quartzite and granite countertops. A stylish wood hood and a marble backsplash encompass the cooktop. Wine storage area, desk and storage with room for the computer, pantry space galore, refrigerator and freezer for all the entertaining goodies and family groceries.

Multiple work spaces welcome help and allow for several tasks to be completed at one time.

Hood & Cook top----Same location-New style

Here you have it. A kitchen that fits the home and the homeowners needs. And… looks great with all the natural light we let in or mood lighting in the evening with the extra hint of elegance from the island lights.

Hire a designer that works for you, and the space!    Not everyone can have a kitchen like this however when the remodel is complete the space should fit the home and the lifestyle of the owner- don’t you agree?  We welcome your comments.

So Long to the Golden Oak Cabinets and Blue Counter Tops!

Thursday, February 21st, 2013

Here it is before we started

The Golden Oak cabinets and blue counter tops are gone!  The Vinyl floor with matching blue diamond’s left with the cabinets. The appliances went to the cabin, and this new kitchen is finished!

The new Kitchen

Listening to this homeowners wants and needs; first on the list was rearranging the new kitchen for better storage. Next was warm brown cabinetry with a contemporary looking backsplash.

So here we have it. Chestnut brown stain on Custom Alder cabinets designed for tons of storage. Cleverly planning for all small appliances to have their own space in the base cabinets avoids countertops clutter.  Incorporating a double convection oven was a hit and perfect for large gatherings. We added durable flooring and an Eco friendly countertop. This transformation means quicker prep time, easier clean up and allows for everything in the kitchen to have its own space.

A speedy and refreshing remodel can make all the difference in the world for a busy family. Everything was chosen in our showroom, installed by our crew on finished time and on budget.

Home Organization- Get Rid of Clutter- Remodel

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

A happy day!  You have decided to finally get that remodel project going. You have visited the SCC Kitchen Bath & Home showroom, you have called references, you have seen the quality of work that they do, and you have made your decision to get on the schedule for this springs project. Last night you picked up your design and you will finally have a place for everything in your gorgeous new space!

As you look around the room you realize the STUFF you have saved has outgrown the space.   Here are some organization tips to help you get ready for the remodel you have been anticipating for years.

In every home clutter tends to build up gradually, and before you know it, a molehill has turned into a mountain. The difference is how people deal with it. But don’t fret. The best way to tackle clutter is in manageable chunks. Try doing a little bit every day; this way it won’t feel like such a chore.

Start by  picking up the plastic storage containers that SCC provides for Kitchen and Bath remodels. Now, look at your new Kitchen design and how the cabinets are labeled. The items you are keeping go in the tubs. Label the tub as your new design is marked for those items. These are for the STUFF you are keeping in your new Kitchen or Bath and easily stacked in an adjacent room during the remodel process.

Next, Large plastic garbage bags (buy lots- the extras will always get used for other projects) you do not want to run out! These are for the Throw away STUFF. Now, run out into the garage and clear a spot in the corner by the door for Donation items. Put your unwanted items close to the door for easy pick up. Family, friends or neighbors may want them, and this spot makes it easy for them to grab them on their way out the next time they visit. The remainder is for the donation truck that you call when you are finished. However you must follow the golden rule: Once it is out- it does not come back in!

You have stashed and stashed waiting for that someday.  Well the someday is here. The Kitchen is getting remodeled! Try to look at objects impartially and without so much emotion. Do you really need that Christmas ornament from 1992 that is stuck in the back of the junk drawer? How many spatulas does one kitchen need? Remember, you’re trying to get rid of clutter, so if you have a tendency to hold onto stuff, you have to be a little ruthless. We have heard for many of our past clients that once you start you will ask yourself why I kept it.   Many homeowners getting ready for a remodel find STUFF they did not know they have. It is probably outdated and in need of repair just like your kitchen so toss it!

When you are finished you will have an inventory of all the items that are saved for the new cabinets. You may have even kept items to set out on the counters. What you will find comfort in is that you know exactly what you have, and where it is going in the new kitchen. (Remember the labeled design?)

The date of completion is here! Just as SCC Kitchen Bath & Home said, “On time and on Budget, You can plan the party”! But first it is time to put everything away. You find this is a wonderful experience because everything goes in its own designated spot just like it was designed. The new items fit in their own place. The items you kept come out of the containers and fit in the cabinets perfectly.

A well planned project! The space you always wanted. Everything has its own place.

Perfect!

Awkward Master Bath is Remodeled

Tuesday, November 6th, 2012

You know how the bathroom can either make you irritated or relaxed?

This bathroom was definitely NOT the way to start your day.

Look at the before photos

At first glance you might think that’s a pretty good looking bathroom and you could live with that – no problem.  But the walking path between the cabinetry and the tub was only 28 inches wide!  And the shower seemed like it was just plopped in the left over space!  Something like a phone booth, wouldn’t you say?  Another problem was the overkill large lights reminiscent of Hollywood dressing-rooms, and the short child height vanity.

SCC Kitchen Bath & Home changed all that and more!

The walkway space is now 48 inches wide, the shower is twice as big, and we did this without changing the footprint – we only moved one wall and well… added several special touches.  Amazing!

We installed heated floor tiles– won’t that feel good on bare feet in the Minnesota winter?

The old shower door with all the metal edging has been replaced with a beautiful frameless heavy glass door 3/8”  thick!  Inside the shower there are 2 cubbies lined with attractive glass tile.  Perfect for holding shampoos and soaps with style.  We removed the clumsy tub  “deck” and dated bathtub and replaced it with a deeper, sleeker designed “haven” for soaking.

Notice the glass block window right in the shower and the picture window we replaced and raised with maintenance free new windows.  We added tile to the underside of the soffit above the tub for a special touch.  And when they step out of the tub onto the warm floor they can grab a warm towel from the heated towel bar!  Nice!

Another dramatic change is the cabinets: we changed out the oak for maple – finished in a dark chocolate shade topped with a creamy vanilla colored quartz counter top and contemporary shaped sinks.

Our custom design fits both Josh and Anna’s personal preferences and looks fantastic!  On a single Saturday afternoon we were able to define the perfect color, choose the faucets, tile, countertops, tub, windows, right in the SCC Kitchen, Bath & Home showroom. Proving once again that it is easy for Leslie Copsey to provide the right design for your style in any space of your home.

Well, I’d say there are good feelings (and warm feet) at the Josh and Anna’s now!

Avoid boring rooms

Tuesday, July 17th, 2012

Create interest with contrasting colors. On the color wheel, contrasting colors are opposite from one another and while it doesn’t seem like these colors would go well together, they can. In fact, when you choose the right contrasting colors, your rooms have energy and balance. Once you understand how to use the colors together, it’s easy. All you need is a color wheel and a general idea of the colors you want to use.

At SCC Kitchen Bath & Home we start with the design. Planning the space, adding the elements and then pull it all together with the color. Sometimes the cabinets are the grounding point; sometimes it is the tile or fixtures. Whatever the colors are we make them work with the entire space and adjoining rooms to bring it all together so the entire space is inviting and interesting when you enter the room.

Home decorating schemes are worked out by means of various color harmonies. The three most used harmonies for decorating with color are monochromatic/dominant, analogous and complementary harmonies.

In monochromatic or dominant color palette, different tones of the same color are used, as in a room done in beige, tan, and brown.

Analogous color scheme is one that uses two or more consecutive colors on the color wheel, such as blue, blue-green, green.

Both monochromatic and analogous harmonies may prove lacking in an interesting contrast of color qualities.

Complementary color scheme is obtained by combining a color and its complement on the opposite side of the color wheel, as red and green.

Thought for the day:

Past belief has been that a room should progress from dark floors to somewhat lighter walls to lighter ceiling. But it is becoming popular to have the ceiling – even in period decoration – a paler tint of the wall color rather than white. When the stark white is blended, the rooms look larger and flow very nicely.

I am here to help!

Your Bathtub can be a Lounge Tub

Wednesday, June 6th, 2012

Deep water, relaxing, inviting style….

If you are adding or changing the bathtub in your bath remodel consider a freestanding tub. We call these the lounge tubs. They are becoming a standard in SCC Master Bath remodels.

Control water depth, temperature and volume of air circulation in a therapeutic bath with a Freestanding  Air-tub.  Room for two and each gets warm water cascading over the shoulders. A recirculating water fall faucet is the perfect backdrop of soothing sound.

And if you want the tub to be the center of attention this one is perfect!  Set in the center of the room on a slate look tile, this tub has simple clean lines, and the shower matches!

Just an example of what we can do when we remodel the bathroom.

Come see what we can do for you!
