Out with the new to bring in the old?
Someone did a makeshift remodel with cheap cabinets, laminate countertops, vinyl stick on floor. Stainless steel sink, 1 single light in the kitchen, no disposal, no exhaust hood or microwave. The windows are painted closed. The wants and need list is long with just the normal things one would expect in a kitchen such as , base trim a front door, and a dishwasher. I’m just saying…
A structural assessment already gave us the go ahead. Next is Lead testing. Not a problem, we are EPA Certified. We are already know we have to pull existing electrical and run all new. Easy. The plumbing… well let’s just say “all new.”
Yes, this is a vintage remodel of an old farm house. Enough said about what we have to do. Here is the fun stuff that I have located, ordered and is on its way to our showroom. I designed the cabinets and backsplash color to depict the era.
- Reclaimed floor planks
- Ceiling Planking and beams- we will whitewash
- Ceiling lighting – found 5 that match!
- BacksplashTile
- A GE restored 1920 Ice Box!
- Floor inset for the “Cellar trap door”
- Pendant lighting above the table – need 6 they are small.
- Gas Dual fuel Range on Feet (new)
- Faucets new from Herbeau—love this!
- Butler pantry tile – love this more!
- Copper Sink (new)
- New Painted cabinets in a slightly sky blue- aged looking color.

Just a little Northwest of the twin cities sits a home in the perfect setting, and boasts lots of stories to tell about raising a family.
Showing wear and tear, two years ago we were called to remodel the kitchen. We thought that was it!
With the decision to stay in the community, this fall the owners called our team at SCC Kitchen Bath & Home to remodel the remainder of the house. This part of the project was finished just in time for the Holidays. The bath is part of the Owner suite we just completed.
The New Bath
- Corner tub is gone
- Walk In Shower – no door necessary
- Heated floor and towel warmer
- Soaking tub “Deep”
- Rich warm cabinetry, a built in Hamper, Carrera marble, Stone tops, and ambiance lighting.
- Separate seating area for make up
- Walk In Closet with a full closet system for 100 pairs of shoes and organization!
Room by room we are re doing the entire house.
The Next Step….
Sealed up and waiting for entertaining to be over: We put a bow on the dumpster, a wreath on the plastic doorway to the basement, and we will resume after Christmas.
We removed everything in the basement and added a new wet bar and entertainment area. We removed the old fireplace and are adding a new one in a different location that is changing from the “kid’s playroom” to the “Man Cave”. A craft room will take the place of the home office, and we are moving the laundry room to the main level. Target completion end of February!
Design and Plans are under way for an addition this spring. We will also add all new windows, new siding and screen in porch.

Ok let’s put the front load washer and dryers to good use. It’s simple, quick and WOW what a difference.
The pedestals are usually free, and yes they work well for storage however I don’t think most people realize the bulk of these front load machines until they are installed. Yikes! They are huge!
At SCC Kitchen Bath & Home we don’t change the ease and access of the front loaders. In fact I encourage them for anyone that has a laundry list. It is how the space is designed which assures maximized usage in these little rooms.

I encourage counter-top space in the laundry.
Imagine folding space! Here is what we have been suggesting when the laundry room needs a facelift.

We were already adding tile floor to the entry and adding a boot-bench. It just made sense to make the space in the laundry room more useful while we were freshening up the rest of the room.
New quartz countertop, undermount sink, a new faucet and paint. Stunning! We matched the base cabinet to the new boot bench, added new upper cabinets and lowered them from where the old ones had been previously placed.
And it doubles as extra work space for large gatherings. Perfect for Crock pots, Deserts, and treats so the kitchen isn’t cluttered.

So excited!
I have started the unique design for Christy’s basement remodel. It is currently a finished basement but Christy is seeking our help to liven up the old look. That means we are going to do a full demo which will give me a clean palette to start over. Family and friends are anxious to see the end result by Spring as this is “the summer place to be” in Elk River and Lake parties are plentiful.
Here is a sneak peek at the Backsplash tile for the wet Bar!
We will add heated (yes, heated!) tile floor, cabinetry (I am planning a round bar!) At the top of the “wants” list is adding a walk-out door to the lakeside of the house which means our SCC crew will be cutting through the block wall and adding a Patio door. Hummm- not the simplest thing to do- but Steve will figure it out. I also plan to add a Beer Keg spout for the many parties they have. How handy will that be — to access the keg from indoors OR outdoors!
They’ll get a media room, fun lighting and an updated bathroom—-
Here is the tile for the bathroom shower and I am incorporating it into a wall at the base of the stairs.
We will use just the right shades of Buff (the new Yellow), Brown and White as an accent against the grey to brighten the space. This is perfect for the white enamel trim.
We remodeled Christy’s Kitchen, Entry & Porch 4 years ago. ( Island chandeliers with beads and crystals) We are proud to complete the remodel on this home.

The old kitchen is gone! The kitchen was a”Two Butt Kitchen”. Here is the before photo. It was a very nice kitchen. Very Cramped, very dated.
Week 2
- Load Bearing wall is removed
- Electrical for under cabinet lights is run
- Dropped Soffit over Island is designed and built
- Mud party for a few days (drywall)
- New patio door goes in next week
- New cabinets arrive on Monday; Custom antique Linen Paint for the wall areas and the Island will be Espresso.

When it is all done and everything is put away, sometimes it is hard to remember what it used to look like. This is a kitchen remodel SCC Kitchen Bath & Home recently completed.
Using the original footprint of this 20 plus-year-old kitchen in the North Metro area of the twin cities, we made a few changes to enhance the space. The goal was make it easy to maintain, user friendly, and look great for the next 20-years.
This is what SCC did
- Raised a portion of the soffits up
- Added a double oven, a beverage center and we switched the over-sized refrigerator to a counter depth, and built it in. We moved the microwave make multiple work-spaces.
- Added a glass and stainless 400-CFM Island canopy-hood.
- Removed the vinyl floor. Added in-floor heat and large stone floor tiles.
- New stone counter tops in contrasting colors.
- New cabinets full of inserts to keep everything organized.
- We painted the walls and soffits, and we removed the popcorn from the ceiling.
- Topped it off with a touch-less kitchen faucet.
The owners have been welcoming family and friends into the newly remodeled space throughout this years holiday season.
